Second Year Residents



Dr. Al Achkar was raised in Syria along with EIGHT other siblings. He is married to his beautiful wife, Nadia, and has two pet dogs. On his spare time, Dr. Al Achkar plays the "lute", a Middle-Eastern string instrument, reads, and enjoys meeting new people. He has goals to do a fellowship in faculty development and to one day be an attending physician. He will be serving as chief resident next year at our program.


Dr. Atwell is from Miami, FL. She is proud to be the first doctor in her family. She currently serves as a Resident Representative of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Atwell loves to dance and watch Gator football. She is thinking about either joining a private practice, working in a community health center, or going into academics after completing her residency training. She will be serving as RA for our residency next year.


Dr. Brown calls Titusville, FL his hometown. He is a computer whiz! Dr. Brown plans to work in private practice after he graduates from residency. 


Dr. Garg grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with her two younger brothers. Her interests outside of medicine include watching movies, listening to music, and enjoying time with close friends. Dr. Garg aspires to go into private practice in the future.


Dr. Jaime is from Brooklyn, NY. Here, she was a most valuable player on the school soccer team and spent time learning "capuera", an African-Latin karate-dance. Dr. Jaime now enjoys the typical hobbies of a mom including reading books to her children, watching HGTV with her family, and decorating her home with her husband.


Dr. Karim is from West Palm Beach, FL where her wonderful parents and younger sister currently reside. Dr. Karim enjoys volunteer work and had been a Counselor of Florida's Diabetes Camp and had participated on medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Bangladesh. Her hobbies include being outdoors, drawing, and traveling abroad. After residency, Dr. Karim would like to work with the underserved and continue to do mission work. She is recently married! Congrats!


Dr. Kwok is from Toronto, Canada. She received her Bachelor's degree from Baylor University and her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch where she learned to lasso cattle while riding bare-back on a bucking bronco. 


Dr. Lee's hometown is in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Dr. Lee enjoys playing badminton, watching Sci-Fi TV shows and hockey, and playing video games such as Warcraft. He aspires to work in both inpatient and outpatient settings after residency.


Dr. Marsh grew up in St. Cloud, FL as the second oldest of four boys. Dr. Marsh enjoys playing guitar, weight lifting, fishing, playing flag football, cooking, and Yoga exercise. He would like to do private practice in a small town or rural setting in the future.


Dr. Qureshi is from Chicago, IL. He is the eldest of four children. He enjoys sketching, fishing, skiing, rollerblading, snorkeling, and playing basketball keep Dr. Qureshi active outside of practicing medicine. He aspires to do a sports medicine fellowship after completion of his residency training. He currently maintains an amazing salt-water aquarium where he keeps Nemo trapped.


Dr. Ruff grew up in Fresno, CA along with her one brother and one sister. Dr. Ruff is a well-rounded athlete in both basketball and flag football. Her other interests include reading, drawing, painting, and cooking. She hopes to work in private practice in the future.


Dr. Sasse is from Fort Myers, FL. She moved to Gainesville, FL to attend college. She kept fit as a Trigator Triathelete, was active in the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and the Alpha Epsilon Delta Medical Honor Society, and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In residency, she was awarded as "Intern of the Year" of her class. Ouside of medicine, Dr. Sasse spends her free time watching Gator football, running, swimming, and fishing with her husband, who is an engineer.


Dr. Tata grew up in Houston, TX as the oldest of five children. Dr. Tata's hobbies include traveling, photography, listening to music, dancing, cooking, and international cuisine. Her career interests involve international medicine and rural medicine.


Dr. Velez was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Orlando and Miami, FL. She has one older sister and a younger brother. Dr. Velez is dedicated to medical mission work and has traveled to the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Thailand, and Panama to help the underserved communities there. She also served as President of her medical school's organization, International Health Service Collaborative, that promotes sustainable health to the underserved. She plans to work with the underserved both at home and overseas in the future. Her hobbies include traveling, kickboxing, and dancing to bachata music.
